Having fostered and adopted dogs with a variety of personalities and issues over the years, I've experienced many of the problems and frustrations that my clients face.

One of the many things I enjoy about training is discovering and leveraging the unique gifts and predispositions each dog and human brings to the training relationship.

I look forward to exploring these opportunities with you.

Got questions?  We're here to help!

Navigating dog training can feel overwhelming, but finding the right help shouldn't be. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about our force-free training methods, in-home services, and how we work together to build a happy, relaxed home for you and your dog. Don't see what you're looking for? Reach out anytime—I’d love to chat!

Training Philosophy and Methodology

What training methods do you use?

I use force-free, reward-based training grounded in modern canine behavioral science. Instead of using pain, fear, or physical intimidation, I teach your dog what to do using positive reinforcement, environmental management, and clear communication. This approach produces lasting results while preserving your dog’s trust and optimism.

Do you use e-collars, prong collars, or physical discipline?

No, never. I don’t use shock collars (e-collars), prong collars, choke chains, or physical discipline. Research shows that these aversive tools can increase stress, anxiety, and aggression in dogs. My humane, fear-free methods achieve excellent results without causing pain or damaging your relationship with your pet.

What certifications and qualifications do you hold?

I’m a highly credentialed canine behavior professional with a Ph.D. in biological science. My professional certifications include:

  • KPA CTP – Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner

  • CPDT-KA – Certified Professional Dog Trainer

  • Fear Free Certified Professional – Specialized in minimizing fear, anxiety, and stress

  • FDM – Family Dog Mediator – a specialization in solving behavior problems by addressing a dog’s innate needs

  • CCUI – Certified Control Unleashed Instructor – a specialization for reducing fear and overexcitement in dogs

Services and Logistics

Where do you offer training sessions?

I provide in-home private training, where your dog lives and learns best! I serve Lexington, Kentucky, and surrounding areas within a 10-mile radius of the city center. I'll travel modest distances beyond this radius for a mileage fee.  Live online virtual consultations are also available for clients outside our local area or for specific behavioral assessments.

Will you do the training for me?

Yes, I’ll train your dog in your home twice a week to do the heavy lifting for you, followed by weekly sessions to show you how to maintain the new behaviors.

You also have the option of private coaching: If you’re interested in learning how to train I can work with you and your dog during each session. I’ll coach you on the mechanics and strategies so you can practice between visits.

What forms of payment do you take?

I send invoices via PayPal, which accepts major credit cards (you don't need to have a PayPal account).  You may also pay by cash or Venmo.

Behavioral Issues and Eligibility

What kinds of behavior issues can you help with?

I help with a wide range of everyday manners and behavioral challenges, including:

  • Improving your dog’s manners: e.g., stop jumping on guests, stop pulling on leash, come when called.

  • Puppy raising challenges: e.g., house training, puppy biting, chewing on your stuff, socialization.

  • Excessive barking and/or overexcitement towards visitors and/or everyday sounds and sights.

  • Fear and anxiety.

  • Barking and lunging when walking on leash.

  • Multi-pet harmony (including problems between dogs and cats).

  • Biting (dogs weighing no more than 50 pounds).

Can older or fearful dogs still learn?

Absolutely! Dogs can learn at any age. Fearful dogs can learn when we help them feel safe first.  In fact, our gentle positive reinforcement methods are ideal for sensitive, anxious, or senior dogs, helping build their confidence and making everyday life less stressful for them.

Getting Started

How do we get started?

Getting started is easy! You can email via our contact form [link] to book a free 15-minute discovery call or schedule an Initial Consultation.  During the consultation, we’ll evaluate your dog’s needs, discuss your goals, and design a customized training plan tailored to your household.

How many sessions will my dog need?

Every dog and family dynamic is unique. The number of sessions depends on your goals and how consistently you follow the advice and practice the trained behaviors. Many clients notice positive progress within just a few sessions, while complex behavior modification may benefit from a longer package.
